The purpose of this role is to carry out the design work required to facilitate the completion of all delegated design projects as set by the General Manager or Project Manager. The role also includes assisting in the supervision of design and drafting staff and to be the first point of contact for all design queries.

Key Responsibility
  • Monitoring and reporting on the status of work requests by the General Manager or Project Manager.
  • Complete design work as directed.
  • Transmitting information to external parties.
  • Detailed calculations for project designs.
  • Preparation and presentation of plans and documents as well as digital data suitable for submission to Local or State Authorities and to meet client requirements.
  • Copying of plans and documents as well as the compilation of reports.
  • Training and mentoring of design staff.
  • Any other reasonable requirements of the General Manager or Project Manager.
Required Experience
  • Associate Degree in Civil Engineering and/or equivalent tertiary qualification.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in Civil Design.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrable experience in all aspects of civil design and drafting from sketch level design, to concept design for (DA) through to detailed design for construction.
  • Knowledge of systems and procedures relating to the role, including practical knowledge, principles and methods of engineering, and relevant codes and standards.
  • Ability to use information technology, including AutoCAD, 12d Model, Microsoft Office Programs and any other applicable software packages.
  • Ability to advise on technical problems, providing guidance on material standards and specifications, and review of work of support staff to ensure technical accuracy and adequacy.
  • Excellent time management skills, with an ability to multi-task, prioritise work, plan workload, meet deadlines and achieve set objectives.
  • Flexible and can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
  • Attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities using logic to analyse and identify underlying principles, reasons or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions.
  • Takes pride in and is responsible and accountable for own work.
  • Committed to the training and mentoring of the design staff.
